In 1947 God laid a burden on the hearts of Reverend and Mrs. Loye T. Whidden, Sr. to plant a church in Gastonia, NC.  Under the successive leadership of Pastors George Patterson, Fenton Jones, Delmar Ross, and David L. Scruggs Sr., the church has become an integral part of God’s work in Gaston County.  In November 2007, First Assembly moved into its newest facility, a 2,000 seat sanctuary that sits on the old Monte Vista Drive-In property on Myrtle School Road.
